Thuriferous juniper (Juniperus thurifera) in Morocco

  An extraordinary vitality

The most important caracteristic of thuriferous juniper is its high resistance to severe climatic conditions, and to the severals mutilations. Indifferent to the kind of the substratum, and able to use the smaller chink of the parent rock, its sturdiness allows it to develop without competition phenomena.

In some very degraded stands, trees have only rare branches with leaves. The trees we can observe in the photograph hereafter (High Central Atlas) seem dead but are always alive.
